Upon the withdrawal of the United Kingdom from the European Union under the agreement between the European Union and the United Kingdom, citizens of the UK and their family members until 31 December 2020 still retain all rights as an EU citizens pursuant to Directive 2004/38/EC "Procedures for the Entry and Residence in the Republic of Latvia of Citizens of the Union and their Family Members". However, if you wish to continue residing in Latvia, it is mandatory to renew your residence permit or apply for residence permit for long-stay in the Republic of Latvia. The above rights shall apply to citizens of the UK and their family members:
- Currently residing in the Republic of Latvia.
- Who will enter and/or apply for a document confirming the right to reside from 1 February 2020 to 31 December 2020.
The identification document, conforming the right to reside in the Republic of Latvia also will be valid as 31 December 2020.

Please be informed, that the citizens of the UK and their family members who are now residing in the Republic of Latvia or will enter the Republic of Latvia before 31 December 2020 and who wish to continue residing in Latvia must submit an application to obtain a new residence permit before 30 June 2021.
If you have not registered and have been living in Latvia for more than 90 days from the day of the arrival in the Republic of Latvia, you must register for a residence permit.
Regarding the entry requirements, as of 1 January 2021 you can travel to Latvia up to 90 days in any 180-day period withot a visa for tourism purposes. If you stay longer in case of
- Working in Latvia.
- Studying.
- Business travel.
you need to meet the entry requirements set by the Republic of Latvia, therefore apply for visa, work or residence permit.
Regarding working and doing business in Latvia, some employers may require UK citizens to provide UK criminal records check.

If you have an employer, the employer shall apply to the State Revenue Service and request a unique tax code for the employee, personal code also may be used for the same purpose.
